One who saw Mrs. Eddy heal tells of own release from despondency

In Irving C. Tomlinson's book, "Twelve Years with Mary Baker Eddy" (pp. 61, 62), is a story of a mother and two children who went to see Mrs. Eddy and an account of the healing of the daughter which took place during the visit.

I am the little boy, now grown up, who is mentioned in the story, the woman was my mother, and it was my sister who was healed. For forty years since that event and for as long before as I can remember, I had known Christian Science, but had accepted it as a matter of course and never given it any study or done much work for myself. I joined The Mother Church when I attained the necessary age, but I did not join a branch church, and I rarely attended a service. If I was sick, the vicarious effort of my mother or some other member of the family got me out of my difficulty. After I married, my wife did much the same for me, and with occasional help from worthy practitioners I drifted along and seemed to fare pretty well.

The time was coming, however, when I was going to be compelled to fend for myself. One day I lost one who was very close and dear to me, and almost simultaneously I experienced a financial loss and business reversal which left me practically destitute at an age when it is not supposed to be easy, if at all possible, to recoup one's fortune. These events were followed shortly by an accident to myself which for a time confined me to bed.
