Recovery of injured son results from mother's prayer

In giving this testimony, I can express some of the gratitude I feel for the blessed help of Christian Science, some understanding of its message having been my greatest source of happiness.

My first proof of its efficacy came over twenty years ago when a friend, who was later to become my husband, gave me a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy to read while I was on a train. I had a very bad cold; I left the train without the cold. As we studied this satisfying religion together, we gained in understanding, although not always without some backslidings; but with practitioners to help, we found our needs met, and our children were protected from the usual infections and hurts. We learned to know man as the idea or reflection of infinite Mind, God, and to demonstrate this.

One evening a policeman came to tell us that our younger son had been taken to the infirmary as the result of a road accident. Even as he spoke, I mentally said, "No," for there are no accidents in divine Mind; and as I turned to prepare to go to the hospital, I thought, What ought to be done first? The answer came crystal-clear, "Be still, and know that I am God" (Ps. 46: 10). During the half-hour's motor journey my husband and I tried to acknowledge our ability to prove God's allness, and our thoughts turned to gratitude for the love and care manifested by the hospital and police staffs. Being conscious of nothing but God and His idea, we saw only a sleeping boy and not the mortal mind picture of the result of fractured skull, lacerations, and bruises. On returning home that night, I gained much help from reading Mrs. Eddy's writings. I learned more of the one Mind, which enabled me to realize that there is no power nor presence that can resist good or that can prevent my prayers from being effectual. I then fell asleep.
