THE ROAD TO JERICHO

Dusty the road, in the heat of day,
The road leading on to Jericho!
Stripped of his raiment, by robber's blow
Wounded and faint, the traveler lay.

A priest, then a Levite, passed him by,
Wrapped close in a false and selfish pride.
Coldly each crossed to the other side;
They heard neither moan nor anguished cry.

A Samaritan, journeying on the road.
Found the stranger. With compassion rare,
He tenderly gave the needed care
That lifted the traveler's heavy load.

It was the Christ, with comforting word,
Which came to reveal God's perfect man,
Portrayed in beauty, in Mind's pure plan;
The Christ, Truth, spoke, and the stranger heard.

It was the Christ, with healing mild.
Which swiftly set the bruised one free,
And offered the gracious ministry
Of God's Mother-love for Love's own child.

The world goes by. But we still may know
Love walks on the road to Jericho.
