I like to recall the many blessings...

I like to recall the many blessings that have come to me through the study and application of Christian Science. It gives one renewed courage to know that "hitherto hath the Lord helped us" (I Sam. 7:12), and that He will do so again.

At one time when I was a beginner in Science, I accidentally poured boiling water over one of my ankles. I immediately turned to God, and this is what I heard: "And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters" (Gen. 1:2). At that moment a member of the family called upon me for assistance and then requested that I sing to her from the Christian Science Hymnal. She did not know about the accident and was not a Scientist, though friendly toward Science. After singing to her for about twenty minutes, I continued with the duties in the home. The pain had ceased, and hours later, upon removing my hose, I found only a slight redness, proof that God's Word is quick and powerful.

I have experienced many healings, including those of constipation of twenty years' standing, lumbago, headaches, ivy poisoning, acute intestinal trouble, and ptomaine poisoning. I have also had healings of grief when loved ones have passed on. I am especially grateful for a healing of an extreme human affection for someone, so intense that suicide was contemplated at one time. Truly, I can say with the Psalmist (Ps. 107: 20), "He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions."
