Presenting the Impersonal Pastor

A woman who said that for some time she had read from opened copies of the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy in our window displays came in to purchase the textbook. She said that her mother had just passed on and that she had felt that by reading the book her grief would be healed.

A young Chinese came into the Reading Room to purchase Science and Health and a Christian Science Quarterly after he had read for some time at the window display. He was invited to make use of the Reading Room. Later he returned to purchase Prose Works.

A woman who was having medical treatment in an adjoining building twice a week made a point of reading the opened books and periodicals in window displays while waiting for a taxi. She came into the Reading Room and told of the encouragement this reading had given her. She asked the librarian how to get in touch with a practitioner. Later she returned to tell the librarian that a fellow worker had loaned her the textbook and the Quarterly and that she was studying the Lesson-Sermons regularly. Although she had known that the fellow worker was a student of Christian Science, no word of it had been spoken between them until after she had decided to turn to it for help. She is now having help from a practitioner, studying, and making regular use of the Reading Room.
