ABUNDANT GOOD
Every enlightened individual longs to be free from limitations of every kind. This is because man, in his true status, enjoys abundant good, and unlimited freedom is an irrepressible characteristic of his being.
What is man's true status? Christian Science reveals man to be the son of God, spiritual, and not material. Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, demonstrated his own spiritual sonship with God. He proved his ability to live an abundant life, and he taught humanity how to attain the same spiritual freedom. He said (John 10:10), "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." But he paid a price for that abundant freedom, a price which mortals are sometimes reluctant to pay. He subjugated and dispelled the material senses, the false mortal consciousness in which all limitations seem to become evident. He sacrificed mortal selfhood.
Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, says in her book "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 66), "To reach the summit of Science, whence to discern God's perfect ways and means, the material sense must be controlled by the higher spiritual sense, and Truth be enthroned, while 'we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen.'"
