Christian Science has been "a...
Christian Science has been "a light unto my path" (Ps. 119:105) for nearly twenty years, and it has met my every need. It came to me at a time of great mental darkness and physical distress. From childhood I had longed to believe that the so-called miracles of Jesus and his disciples recorded in the Bible could be repeated today, but I was always told that they were a special dispensation for that day. The world as I had been taught to view it seemed very inconsistent to me. I turned away from the explanations given me and for a time believed I was an agnostic. Really I was turning away from a false concept of God and His universe, and my thought was being prepared to accept the truth about God and man, as given to the world by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, through her revelation of divine Science. It was natural and inevitable that I should eventually turn to Christian Science.
Through the help of a practitioner and my consecrated study and application of this glorious truth, the false concepts of God and man were progressively replaced by the truth about God and man were progressively replaced by the truth about God and His spiritually mental universe of ideas. Then the physical problem was healed. The fear of permanent invalidism, prophesied by a prominent physician, was destroyed by the assurance of man's perfection in Science.
Another healing brought great inspiration and enlightenment. For over a year I experienced periodic hemorrhages. Help was sought from a consecrated practitioner. She faithfully maintained the facts of man's spiritual origin and destiny, but my thought seemed not ready to accept them, and fear persisted. One day, when it appeared to my frightened sense that life itself would flow away, I turned my thought earnestly to God, and it was as though a dear friend spoke to me in the words from our textbook (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 25): "The spiritual essence of blood is sacrifice." I answered, "Sacrifice of what?" and then the words of the textbook came again (p. 16): "A great sacrifice of material things must precede this advanced spiritual understanding." I accepted this call to go higher. All fear immediately left. The physical condition was lost sight of and has never returned.
