THE ATTRIBUTES OF GOD

In the chapter entitled "Recapitulation" in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy states (p. 465), "The attributes of God are justice, mercy, wisdom, goodness, and so on." The implication of the words "and so on" is evidently our Leader's way of saying that the list of God-qualities is endless, and so she leaves it to the reader to add to these attributes ad infinitum.

Because the real man is the image and likeness of God, as the Bible and Christian Science reveal him to be, the more qualities of God one expresses the nearer he approaches his real being. Thus a simple means is available whereby anyone can daily and hourly test the extent to which he is manifesting his God-given identity by watching how fully and how consistently he is expressing the wide variety of attributes that belong emphatically to God. Let us, therefore, explore some of these qualities to determine just how faithfully we are manifesting them as we go about our daily business.

Justice is an attribute of God! Are we just? Do we judge righteous judgment where the interests of others are involved? Are we seeing man as God's image despite human evidences to the contrary? Or are we seeing him as sick, hateful, dishonest, or unjust?
