OUR PART IN ANOTHER'S DEMONSTRATION

Among the many miracles, rightly termed marvels, performed by Christ Jesus was the raising of Lazarus, which is recorded in the eleventh chapter of John. There is much to learn from this glorious demonstration of Life.

Lazarus had come forth from the grave in response to the Master's command. Although he was still "bound hand and foot," according to the Biblical record, his bindings had in no way hindered Lazarus from coming forth. Moreover, the same divine power which made possible the quick response to Jesus' command could certainly have given Lazarus the ability to remove those bindings himself without any personal assistance.

Yet Jesus made no further demands upon Lazarus, but rather, turning to those who stood by, said, "Loose him, and let him go." Jesus had performed his part, and Lazarus his; but those who loved him with the false sense of personal possession with its fears and tears and its belief of life in matter were still binding him, and they must loose him by freeing themselves of these beliefs. It was reasonable to assume that loved ones would humanly assist in the removal of those material bindings, yet Jesus by his request no doubt wanted them also to release Lazarus from the false material belief about man and Life which they were entertaining.
