With many causes for gratitude,...

With many causes for gratitude, I am most grateful for the fact that, in spite of aggressive opposition on the part of two ministers, friends, and relatives, my mother enrolled my sisters and me in the (Christian Science Sunday School when we were very young. She had been healed in Christian Science of a deep sense of grief at the passing on of my father. Her great love for our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and her steadfast loyalty to the teachings of Christian Science have ever been a shining example to me.

In the intervening years many wonderful healings have taken place in our family, two of whit I wish to relate. These illustrate the illumination that Christian Science sheds on familiar Bible passages.

When eight years of age, I was suddenly taken ill at a family gathering at Christmas time. I was taken home immediately, and my mother prayed for me all night. About daylight she went to another room, and as she stood there in anxiety she said: "O God, what shall I do now? I have worked all night, and instead of being better, she is worse." An angel voice answered her, "Cast the net on the right side" (John 21 :6). She then inquired, "Which is the right side?" The reply came, "There is no fear on the right side." In that moment all fear left her, and she knew that I was healed. She came running up the stairs declaring, "You are healed," and I, already sitting up in bed, replied, "I know it." The healing had been instantaneous and complete. Through this experience the provability of Mary Baker Eddy's statement in "Science and Health with Key to the Scripture's" (p. 410), "Christian scientific practice begins with Christ's keynote of harmony, 'Be not afraid!' " was impressed upon us.
