It is a joy to be able to write this testimony regarding the healing efficacy of Christian Science. For over thirty years I was afllicted with stammering. My parents tried many methods which were supposed to heal such a condition, and there were intervals when I was able to talk freely, but such intervals lasted only from one to six months. During my college years I did everything possible to have the condition corrected, but without lasting results. Then I became interested in Christian Science and decided that through it I could receive my healing. I read in the Bible of the many wonderful healings effected by Jesus, and one which stood out in my thought was that of the boy whose tongue was loosed, as recorded in the seventh chapter of Mark. It aroused me to see that the same law of Spirit which worked in the loosing of the tongue of this boy works today, and that I too could be healed.

I asked help from a Christian Science practitioner, and he showed me that the condition was a dream from which I could awaken. He pointed to the prophecy in Isaiah (32:4), "The tongue of the stammerers shall be ready to speak plainly." He also told me that if I would devote some time to study, when there were no interruptions, the entire condition could be met. He pointed to the words of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, in "No and Yes" (p. 2), "I have healed more disease by the spoken than the unspoken word." Finally I did devote my entire time to the solution of this problem, with the help of the practitioner, and in two days I was able to speak without hesitation and have continued to do so ever since. In this work I was helped by that part of the definition of "resurrection" in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy (p. 593) which reads, "Material belief yielding to spiritual understanding."

I have been tested in many ways, but the condition has not recurred. Shortly after my healing I was called upon to read before a group, many of whom had known me for years, and they expressed surprise at the smoothness with which the reading was accomplished. I had always hesitated about giving oral testimony because of this impediment, but now I feel no hesitancy whatever in speaking.
