Through the study and application...
Through the study and application of Christian Science many of God's rich blessings have been shown me, and in place of sickness, pain, fear, and unhappiness, health, strength, and joy are now manifested. One often hears the expression, "God has been very good to me," but Christian Science reveals that His abundant good is withheld from none. As we read in Psalms (145:9), "The Lord is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works." The understanding of this one fact alone is cause for unbounded gratitude.
My interest in Christian Science was first roused when I observed that members of my family who were students of this religion were happy and contented, whereas I seemed to be constantly dissatisfied. About this time I had been pondering the words of Jesus (John 14: 12), "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also," and had been told in an orthodox Sunday School that these words were intended to apply to Jesus' day only. This did not satisfy, and when I learned that Christian Science teaches that Jesus meant that these works should be accomplished throughout the ages, I enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School. I shall always be profoundly grateful for the love, patience, and wisdom expressed by my Sunday School teacher, who was a Christian Science practitioner, and for all the practitioners who have helped me along the way.
The first experience that proved to me the efficacy of this Science was finding satisfactory employment. I was not trained for any particular work, and when a friend of our family offered me a position in a large business office, I accepted it eagerly. Because of the friendship, I wanted particularly to make good, but to my dismay I found that I was not capable of accomplishing what was expected, because of inexperience. My fellow workers were most kind, but, although I worked extra hours, I could see that the unfinished work was accumulating, and each evening I feared the following day would bring my discharge. How-ever, I asked the help of my Sunday School teacher, and I shall never forget the peace and expectancy of good that came to me after my conversations with her.
