The Way to a Positive Peace

Dr. H. F. Rall in his column in The Christian Advocate Chicago, Illinois

The most common mistake in our idea of peace is to think of it negatively—as simply freedom from war, civil disturbance, strife, inner conflict, and fear. But peace is something positive and creative. Another mistake lies in thinking that peace is something separate and independent, something that can be achieved by itself. Men think that they can get peace of mind by some special formula or process. They believe that world peace would come automatically if we would just set up a world government, or establish an armed force capable of overwhelming an enemy.

Whether it be peace of soul or peace among men, whether in the heart or the home, in industry or the nation or among the nations, peace is always a part of something greater. It is a quality of life, of a life that has unity and harmony in itself and that is in right relations with its world.
