THERE IS BUT ONE WORLD

"The suppositional world within us separates us from the spiritual world, which is apart from matter, and unites us to one another." This illuminating statement by Mary Baker Eddy, on page 167 of her work "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany," has great import for the race and notably for those desiring a better world. The acceptance of the belief of a material world, with its ills, strifes, and problems, constitutes "the suppositional world, with in us." Mortals believe the physical world to be real, and this error of belief obscures the true, substantial, spiritual universe of God's creating, in which He holds all His children in one harmonious, universal family.

To attain a better world we must abandon matter and materialism as a basis for thinking and living and adopt the spiritual truths of Christian Science, which reveal the allness of Spirit and the consequent nothingness of matter. The barriers of material sense which would obstruct mankind's progress out of inharmony are annihilated through spiritual understanding, which reveals the one spiritual world of Mind's creating with all its wondrous glory and heavenly riches for the enjoyment of man.

Paul must have been cognizant of the ideal world, for he said (Acts 17:24), "God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands." Here "world" is a translation of the Greek word kosmos. meaning the universe, and refers to Spirit's universe. It is in this sense that Mrs. Eddy refers to the "spiritual world."
