I have been studying Christian Science...
I have been studying Christian Science for only a short time, but I am sure that I should let others know the wonderful help that has come to me and mine.
Practically all my life I had been sick, but when I became a young woman I went to work and made my way until I married and had a home and later two children to care for. I suffered dreadfully from my back, and first one thing and then another ailed me. I suffered dreadfully from my back and first one thing and then another ailed me. I dragged along until February 10, 1943. On that day when cleaning my kitchen, I came across a copy of The Christian Science Journal lying on a trunk. I opened it, and my eyes fell on an article called "Health Is Normal." I thought, This sounds reasonable and right. I went into the living room and sat down to read it. I read it again and again; then I said, "I have a book here that must go with this magazine." I went to the bookcase and took down Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I opened it eagerly, hoping to find something good, something that would enlighten me and help me get well. I turned to page 400 and read, "Mortals obtain the harmony of health, only as they forsake discord, acknowledge the supremacy of divine Mind, and abandon their material beliefs." After I read this I became so absorbed in reading I could not read fast enough. I said to myself, "This is true; I believe every word of it!" I said, "Thank You, Father, God, for this inspiring reading."
I must have read for about two hours when I remembered that I must get my husband's supper. When I stood up I felt my sickness was all gone, and I said, "I believe I'm healed." So I went about getting the supper, feeling fine; and when my husband came home, I told him all that had taken place and asked him where he had obtained Science and Health and the Journal, for he had brought both of them to the house. He said that he had found the Journal when he was sweeping the street, which was his employment at that time, and the other he had bought with some books at a storage house. Science and Health had been in the bookcase for about five or six years, but I had never read it, although I had admired its gold edges and leather cover. I did not know the truth it contained, but since I have begun to study and read, I find it most wonderful. I have read it through twenty-six times, and I study the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly every day and go to church every Sunday. I love Science and try to live it. I have learned that the body functions normally, when we keep the commandments of God, and that there is in reality no sickness or disease of any kind.
