In 1933 when I graduated from college, I dreaded going home because of the confusion and hopelessness caused by the depression. My education had helped me to see the uselessness of the orthodox religious training I had received, but had given me nothing to take its place.

Upon arriving home I found that my mother was studying Christian Science. I began to read to her from the textbook, to help her, but it did not take long for me to realize that "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy contained the answers to all my questions concerning God and man. Here was explained the Science of Being, which made the life and works of Jesus comprehensible and illuminated the Bible.

With the help of a practitioner I was able to find a job and resume the study of music, which later helped me in my career. Since becoming a more advanced student of Christian Science I have been able to see more clearly that man, the reflection of God, is never unemployed or the victim of a depression. Truth, being has transformed my whole existence. I have been healed of sinus infection, for which I had undergone surgical treatment for years, influenza, blood poisoning, a badly sprained ankle, and grief. I have been released from the bondage of smoking and drinking. One of my greatest blessings is a happy marriage and a wonderful home. Because of Christian Science my two years in the Navy, during the recent war, proved to be a period of growth out of which have come many blessings.
