I have had numerous proofs that the healing ministry of primitive Christianity continues in our midst. For many years Christian Science has been my only physician, and in many instances I have been able to destroy intruding beliefs of sickness quickly by applying my understanding of it.

On one occasion I arrived home ill one winter's night and had to go straight to bed. After two days of unsuccessful effort by my wife and myself, I asked for help from a Christian Science practitioner and experienced improvement immediately. At this stage I had to call in a doctor to furnish the certificate required by my employers under the National Insurance Act, and he diagnosed the case as pneumonia. I declined his offer of medicine, as it is my invariable custom to rely solely on Christian Science treatment, knowing that "only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized," as Mrs. Eddy says on page 167 of Science and Health.

For a short time the diagnosis caused depression and fear, but the Christian Science practitioner visited me soon afterwards and was impelled to read aloud the Lesson-sermon for that week in the Christian Science Quarterly. I had previously found that affirmation of one or another of the truths in the Lesson had quieted unrest during the night and had given me peaceful sleep from which I awoke refreshed. The act of listening to and recognizing these same truths removed the fear and depression and set my feet on the upward path again. After that there was no looking back, and in a few days I was very grateful to find myself entirely free and in better health than I had been before.
