I CEASE TO SIGH
When
circumstances try to press me down,
And situations seem a hopeless state,
When many minds are clamoring for renown
And straining to be greater than the great,
When unimportant things seem paramount
And trivial happenings indispensable.
When human plans are taken in account,
Found faulty, frail, incomprehensible—
Remembering the infinite design,
I cease to sigh. The all-inclusive Love
Impels my honest aims and will refine.
Remembering ... I lift to things above.
Here on this Patmos I have learned to feel
An overflowing joy in all things real.
