For over thirty years Christian Science...
For over thirty years Christian Science has never failed to meet my need. It came into my life when I was a small child and the possibility of my attaining womanhood was questioned by the family doctor. From the moment I was placed in the Christian Science Sunday School, the sunshine of Truth and Love filled my consciousness and left no room for shadows and former beliefs. I naturally grew strong and well. For the foundation laid and for the training received in the Sunday School, I can never be too grateful. An experience which occurred during the last year of my attendance stands out as a beautiful tribute to the loving guidance and protection made available through the Sunday School.
My mother and I had moved to California to make our home. Our only friends there were not Christian Scientists, but I soon found my place in the Sunday School. One day while we were crossing an intersection at dusk, a bicycle out of control of the rider and descending a steep hill ran into my mother and knocked her unconscious. The first thought that came to me was that there are no accidents in God's kingdom. Soon we were taken to the receiving hospital. I explained that we were Christian Scientists and would appreciate a quiet room to think things out. The request was granted.
I knew that God is "a very present help in trouble" (Ps. 46:1), and that all I needed to do was to draw closer to Him. Whatever steps were to be taken would surely unfold. After I had done considerable prayerful thinking, the name of my Sunday School teacher came as a beacon light. I arose and put through a telephone call at once. Work was lovingly and promptly commenced. When I returned to the room, I found the doctors and nurses surrounding the bed. They said there were internal injuries and a fractured skull. As I stood silently in the doorway, they left one by one. My mother was taken home.
