Haverhill, Massachusetts (First Church).

Dedicatory services were held at First Church of Christ, Scientist, Haverhill, 17 Newcomb Street, on Sunday, May 16, 1948, in the morning and afternoon. The services marked the formal dedication of the church building, which was completed in the spring of 1942.

Interest in Christian Science began here in 1885, and informal services eventually gave way to regular Sunday services.

On April 30, 1895, First Church of Christ, Scientist, Haverhill, was organized and occupied Bartlett Hall on Main Street. In 1914 the church was moved to a location on Fifth Avenue, and later to the Wiggin block on Pleasant Street.

In February, 1921, services were first held in a building erected on Newcomb Street at the site of the present church. The Sunday School and Reading Room were incorporated in the same building.

On Sunday, October 5, 1941, the cornerstone of the present church was laid. The building was completed in April, 1942, and the first services were held on April 26.

While the building was under construction, the First Presbyterian church, Summer Street, was offered to the Scientists for their Sunday and Wednesday meetings.
