TRUE HEREDITY

Christ Jesus taught his disciples to pray (Matt. 6:9), "Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name." To this Christly understanding of God as Father, Mary Baker Eddy adds her revelation of God as Mother. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the textbook, she writes (p. 332), "Father-Mother is the name for Deity, which indicates His tender relationship to His spiritual creation."

The Bible teaches and Christian Science reiterates that man is the child of God, spiritual and perfect, forever governed by His immutable law of perfection. This beneficent law of Spirit, God, is the law governing man's infallible spiritual inheritance. Mrs. Eddy writes (ibid., p. 63): "In Science man is the offspring of Spirit. The beautiful, good, and pure constitute his ancestry."

A dictionary defines heredity as "hereditary transmission of the physical and psychical characters of parents to their offspring." Mortal mind claims this transmission to be an irrefutable law, but if this were so, it would set aside the truth of man's spiritual relationship to God, his only Father-Mother, which proves the so-called human law of heredity to be lawless— powerless. To the one discouraged by supposedly irremediable conditions, physical or mental, Christian Science comes with its message of liberation, inciting mankind to rebel against this supposed law and to claim the health and holiness which are man's divine inheritance.
