Although I was raised in a strict orthodox religion, it did not seem to satisfy me after I reached maturity. I was attracted to Christian Science by the spiritual serenity of an aunt while I was visiting in her home. Fearful lest I be led away from Truth, my first question concerning this new-old religion was, "How do you know that Christian Science is the truth?" My aunt very wisely replied, "Because it works!" That reply satisfied me completely.

That Christian Science does work and is the truth I have been able to prove many times in the past twenty-five years; it has never failed when correctly applied.

My first healing was one of ptomaine poisoning. Although desperately ill, I tried to read while my aunt went across the street to telephone to a practitioner for help. I began reading the paragraph on page 390 in Science and Health where Mrs. Eddy says, " 'Agree to disagree' with approaching symptoms of chronic or acute disease, whether it is cancer, consumption, or smallpox." When I came to the words (p. 391), "Then, when thou art delivered to the judgment of Truth, Christ, the judge will say. 'Thou art whole!'" the mist lifted. When my aunt returned I was at the window waiting for her. In just a short while I was entirely free.
