Here in the range of voluntary vision
This window holds the printed word's display.
Each passer-by can make his own decision
To walk on unrewarded or to stay—
To stay and heed the call of these appealing.
Impartial opportunities which stand
As near and free as eyes' alert revealing,
As turning feet, as door-releasing hand.

Let thought respond, though manifold fulfilling
Of Truth seems now like balm, now dynamite.
Let thought respond, intelligently willing,
To all this open heritage of light,
To challenges, to victories, which rise
From out the Word's restorative surprise.
