LOVE'S DESIGN

Christian Science teaches that God is Love, divine intelligence, omnipotent Spirit. It reveals the beauty and order of the Supreme Being and makes plain His divine design. The purpose of divine Love is health, joy, and limitless good for all. "None can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?" (Dan. 4:35.) God alone possesses all power. The universe of Spirit is complete and harmonious; and man, reflecting God, is loving and lovable, the eternal expression of beauty and harmony.

Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 129), "If you wish to know the spiritual fact, you can discover it by reversing the material fable, be the fable pro or con,—be it in accord with your preconceptions or utterly contrary to them." Complicated human situations are solved in proportion as one realizes that God, Spirit, is All-in-all; that His universe, including man, is divinely controlled and expresses His eternal purpose; and that only the design of divine Love is real. The understanding of these facts reverses the testimony of material sense and replaces discord and unloveliness with harmony and beauty.

The Bible has many illustrations of the healing efficacy of prayer to reveal Love's design. Peter was kept in prison awaiting trial, "but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him" (Acts 12:5). This prayer delivered him from prison and probable death. The bonds of Paul and Silas were loosed as they "prayed, and sang praises unto God." Likewise, Daniel was delivered from the lions' den, and the three Hebrews came forth unharmed from the fiery furnace.
