"I WILL BEHAVE MYSELF WISELY IN A PERFECT WAY"

Those who have eyes to see and ears to hear are becoming aware of a new leaven at work in human consciousness since the publication in 1875 of Mary Baker Eddy's revolutionary book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Truly is this leaven prophetically described in these words of Christ Jesus (Matt. 13:33): "The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened."

In our time, a devout Christian woman has sent forth in her extraordinary book the spiritual interpretation of Scripture, a veritable key to Holy Writ, which is bringing a needed and wholesome stirring up and overturning in the entire realm of thought. Referring to the Master's words just quoted, she writes (Science and Health, p. 118): "Did not this parable point a moral with a prophecy, foretelling the second appearing in the flesh of the Christ, Truth, hidden in sacred secrecy from the visible world? Ages pass, but this leaven of Truth is ever at work. It must destroy the entire mass of error, and so be eternally glorified in man's spiritual freedom."

Now leaven always effects a change, and in this process will occur fermentation. The prophet Jeremiah elucidates this in his significant statement (Jer. 1:10), "See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down," but he ends on this promising note: "to build, and to plant." Here is outlined the activity of the leaven of Truth; and who can fail to see in these disturbed times the signs of Truth's redemptive operation? Without doubt, mortal thought is being stirred to its very depths; latent injustices are being uncovered and in many instances corrected; problems which yesterday were regarded as purely physical are now seen as mental; psychoanalysts today delve for the cause of human disorders in the realm of thought, instead of matter. These are just a few of the many straws which show the direction of modern currents of thought.
