Christian Science has been a beacon light all though my life and my gratitude to God knows no bounds. Through its inspired teachings I have glimpsed something of the true nature of God, of His all-inclusiveness and the consequent nothingness of evil. As this spiritual understanding increases, my appreciation of and gratitude for the selfless life of our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, deepens.

Many of the truths that Christian Science has taught me came through the Sunday School. During my childhood, illnesses such as scarlet fever, chicken pox, frequent attacks of tonsillitis, and smallpox were healed through Science treatment. Overpowering fear of the dark was healed after I had attended a service in The Mother Church.

When I was six years old, the palms and fingers of my hands were so severely burned that a relative who was a doctor declared I would never regain the use of my fingers. All pain was permanently met within half an hour after my mother insisted that since I could not stop screaming I was to scream the truth. I obeyed, screaming the entire "scientific statement of being" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468). When I finished, all pain had ceased, never to return, and I fell asleep as my mother sang my favorite hymn, "Feed My Sheep" (Poems by Mrs. Eddy, p. 14). In the days that followed I learned to read by spelling out the words in Science and Health to my mother, who identified them for me. In two weeks my hands were normal, without a scar of any kind.
