Army life was made much more...
Army life was made much more pleasant and productive for me by an understanding of Christian Science. The application of the truth resulted in my receiving a good assignment when I first entered the Army, and later I was directed to apply for Officers Candidate School and was accepted for this training. Doubt that I should be successful in completing the course was expressed by friends because of my lack of previous military training. These doubts were nullified through spiritual understanding, and each time it was necessary, information or the means of acquiring it was immediately available to me.
Upon completion of this assignment, I was offered and gratefully accepted further schooling in a well-known university. Much good was received from this study and also from the privilege I had of attending The Mother Church during this period.
Shortly after completing this course of study I was ordered over-seas, and spent the first war of my new assignment, which I found unpleasant, trying in every possible way to arrange a transfer to another type of work. There were brief periods when other work was available, but always after a short time I would be reassigned to my original job. I suddenly realized that there must be some reason for my remaining there, and that I should try to find the good in it and take advantage of it. I began to do this, and from that time on I was gradually shifted out of the phase of the work which I had disliked, and much more pleasant and satisfying tasks were found.
