I FOUND THE LORD

I searched the Scriptures many times;
I studied line and word.
I read the Bible through and through,
Seeking there my Lord.

The printed words had small effect.
Did not Ezekiel say,
"Arise, go forth into the plain,
I will there talk with thee"?

Into the plain, which is our world,
Desolate, loveless grown,
I waited there to hear His voice,
But only heard a moan.

It came from one whose heavy load
Bowed him to the ground.
I lent a hand to ease its weight,
And that is how I found

The one I sought. He spoke to me
Through another's weary load;
In helping him I helped myself
To reach the Lord's abode.
