Weekday Religious Education
The Item of Interest under the above heading published in the Christian Science Sentinel of June 16, 1945, and reprinted in the issue of January 25, 1947, applies particularly to the United States.
In Great Britain, religious instruction is required by law in every county school and in every voluntary school. The instruction is usually given by a schoolteacher. Any parent who desires may withdraw his child from this instruction in order that the child may receive denominational religious teaching elsewhere than at the school. Wherever Christian Science churches are providing classes for denominational instruction the children are, with few exceptions, withdrawn from school. In these classes, instruction may be given in accordance with a syllabus prepared by a committee appointed by The Christian Science Board of Directors for the purpose.
