Concerning Christian Science Wartime and Postwar Activities
[From a Christian Scientist in Austria]
It is now high time not only to thank God—which I have been fining all along—but to thank all who are sending me these gifts through the branches of The Mother Church. Some time before Christmas. packages ceased and I felt disappointed at first. Then I realized how much I have to be grateful for to God. I was just about to write you expressing these feelings when there came what I did not expect—a number of parcels which had been delayed. ...
How can I thank you for all the gifts! Every piece of clothing was needed and fitted some member of our family. The beautiful winter overcoat was especially appreciated, as I had lost mine during the war. And what can I say for the tender consideration of my baby boy? But these parcels do more than feed us. My wife, resisting the thought of Christian Science for seven years, now felt the deep, unselfish, practical love behind these gifts. She then started to investigate our religion and is now a regular and sincere student of the Lesson-Sermon and the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Maker Eddy. She is delighted at the clear and pure statements of truth to be found in Christian Science. When attacked by influenza, which in bygone years lasted four to six weeks, she overcame it simply by studying our textbook for two days, the healing proving permanent and complete.
