The Bud and the Blossom
The rightness of the bud preceding the blossom and of the blossom succeeding the bud is accepted by all of us. Bud and blossom are but different states of the same concept. Neither would be complete without the other. Months before the fruit trees bloom, their buds are formed ready for the warmth of spring to invite them to become blossoms. In our gardens the tightly bound rosebuds foretell the oncoming of the fragrant and beautiful blooms. In desert places unseen seeds patiently wait, often for years, until rain and sun combine to make the blossoms come.
The material processes which form bud and blossom operate quietly and unseen, yet withal effectively. Futile would be any human effort to stop, reverse, or stay their operation. Basically they are seen to be forces of Mind, intelligence, and all creation responds to, concurs in, and is blessed by them. Christian Science teaches that these forces of Mind which are so inexorable, yet so gentle, will care for all the needs of men, physically, morally, financially, politically.
In almost every direction when you look out on men and nations you see motives, purposes, and endeavors in different stages of development pointing to desired accomplishment, comparable to the processes that produce first the bud then the blossom. Why not recognize, then, that the same cause which initiates every right purpose is ever capable of bringing it to accomplishment? Says the Scripture, "For that he is strong in power; not one faileth" (Isa. 40:26).
