"Heaven's signet is Love"

Tradition says that when John was elderly, and was asked by the people to speak to them, all he would say was, "Little children, love one another." In his epistles he points out again and again that we must be loving.

In the fourth chapter of I John (verse 7) we read, "Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God." This shows that unless we are loving we do not know man's real selfhood or the nature of God. In the proportion that we hold to the fact that God is the divine Principle, Love, and that man is the outcome of Love, ever animated by Love, and then express this Love in our daily life, do we realize the omnipotence and omnipresence of Love and make apparent man's true selfhood as the reflection of God.

Christian Science teaches that we reach spiritual selfhood through Love; that if we are governed by hate, jealousy, selfishness, and the like, we cannot comprehend that God is Love and that man is His image and likeness. But in the measure that we realize and demonstrate that man is ever animated by divine Principle, Love, we know and express our true selfhood.
