GOD'S MOTHERHOOD
"As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall he comforted in Jerusalem" (Isa. 6:13). As authority for this promise, Isaiah prefixes this statement with the words, "Thus saith the Lord." Therefore, according to the prophet, God's tender mother love is a divine fact.
The concept of God as All-in-all was glimpsed by spiritual seers even before Christ Jesus' era. But not until the advent of Christian Science, which fulfills Christ Jesus' promise (John 14:16), had the world even faintly discerned that God is the alone Mother as well as father. As this momentous fact becomes more generally recognized and accepted, mankind will benefit from an ever-increasing realization that the true idea of fatherhood and motherhood is included in omnipotent and omnipresent divinity.
The understanding of the motherhood of God reveals divine Love to be the inexhaustible source of the tender, selfless, and patient ministrations which the human ideal of motherhood expresses. It has been said that the relationship of the ideal mother to her children most resembles the tender relationship of God to man. The unfaltering patience, alert watchfulness, tender compassion, and selfless love of a mother qualify her to be the clearest interpreter of Love to her little ones, their wisest educator, and their closest friend on earth.
