LETTERS TO THE PRESS from Christian Science Committees on Publication

Northern California Times-Herald, Vallejo

Under "Opinions of the People" in a recent issue a correspondent refers to "money-changers in the temples today" and then adds, "It was said that Mrs. Eddy, the Christian Scientist, was very wealthy." As the implication of this statement is unjust and could give a wrong impression to your readers, I should appreciate your giving space for this letter.

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, did accumulate a sizable fortune from the sale of her book "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," which is the textbook of Christian Science. The immense sale of this book since its first publication in 1875 has come about through the good that it has done for mankind. The last one hundred pages of the book are made up of testimonies from people who were healed, many of them of diseases called incurable, simply by reading the book. And people today are being healed by reading this book.
