Having enjoyed the peace, happiness...
Having enjoyed the peace, happiness and abundance of blessings which the study of Christian Science brings to one, and for which I am increasingly grateful, I should like specifically to mention how this Science has helped me in business.
At the time I heard of this teaching I was connected with the medical profession, drugs, and so forth. From a financial point of view it was a very good position which I held, but after studying "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy for a few months I saw how opposed my occupation was to Science. I talked the matter over with a sincere student of Christian Science, who assured me that, when it was right for me to leave, God would point the way. I continued for about two years, and then the time came for a change.
During the first few days after leaving this post I turned humbly to God for guidance, clinging to the little understanding of Truth that I had gained. During these days the thought presented itself to reopen a shop opposite my home which had been closed for about six months. This thought was acted upon, and within a fortnight the shop was opened. There was absolute reliance on God, as well as a continuous affirming of the truths I had learned. The business progressed with comparatively few problems.
Daily mental work was done; I realized that true activity emanates from Mind, and that therefore my business was maintained, upheld, and preserved by divine intelligence, thus partaking of Mind's own nature, and be a use of this conformed to Principle, the law of harmony, progress, and abundance. Many were the proofs of Truth understood in some measure, but the greatest proof was in 1946.
I was approached by someone who was very persistent in wanting to buy the business. Owing to his persistency, I promised to think about it. At first the offer appeared to be very promising, but I knew that if it were not God's will nothing could come of it, and that if I took a wrong course I should have to retrace my steps.
To ascertain if my work were completed there I began to ask myself if I had really done the work in connection with the business as perfectly as I should have done it; if I had been as honest, loving, patient, impartial as the child of God must be; if not, then the work was not finished. I felt I could not answer these questions in the affirmative, so I decided to stay and put these enlightened thoughts into practice. The result was wonderful. New customers came to the shop, and at the same time came an increase of supplies. Within a few months the number of registered customers trebled.
This was a great proof to me of the truth of the words in Malachi (3:10): "Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it."
I have also witnessed many beautiful physical healings through Christian Science, and I am grateful for health and peace which have been mine since I commenced this study. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church and for the privilege of class instruction. I am profoundly grateful to God for this Science of Christianity, to Jesus, who lived it, and to Mrs. Eddy, who discovered it.—(Miss) Emily Haigh, Bradford, Yorkshire, England.
