THANKING GOD FOR SPIRITUAL PERFECTION

In "Science and Health with Key In the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 120), "Health is not a condition of matter, but of Mind; nor can the material senses bear reliable testimony on the subject of health." Here is clear warning against the error of continually contemplating physical conditions.

The demonstration of health in Christian Science is the result of the spiritual consciousness of God's perfection and of man as the expression of that perfection. This standard of perfect being is already and eternally established in Mind. No false claim of mortal sense can change that unalterable spiritual fact. It does not need the corroboration of so-called material law to confirm its truth. It is true now. However adamant any claim of material sense may appear, the truth is that man's perfection is forever established in Mind. The perfection of His idea is what God eternally knows as fact about His image and likeness, man, and that is what we also need to know about ourselves.

It is thus clear that we do not need to look to matter for the evidence of our well-being. If good health is attributed to matter, then logically it must be admitted that matter has power on occasion to manifest ill-health. Actually, however, it is only the belief of power with which we ourselves have erroneously endowed it that enables material law to tempt us to accept its suggestions.
