GOD IS ALWAYS WITH US

[Of Special Interest to Children]

Jimmy awoke early on the morning that was to be his first day in school. He had been a pupil in the Christian Science Sunday School since he was two years old and had learned how much good comes to those who accept the truths about God and man which are taught there.

Every morning Jimmy went over some lesson he had learned in Sunday School. Some mornings he said the Lord's Prayer or the Ten Commandments; other mornings the Beatitudes or "the scientific statement of being" Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 468).

This particular morning Jimmy said the Lord's Prayer and then started off happily to school. His mother would not have to take him after this first morning, because the bus stopped just a short distance from his home and went directly to the school. So he could ride in the bus to and from school.

When school was out in the afternoon, Jimmy skipped down the walk and got into one of the busses that were parked in front of the school building. After the bus had gone several blocks, Jimmy noticed that it was taking him in the opposite direction from his home.

He rang the bell as he had done many times when he and his mother had ridden home in a bus from town. The driver stopped. Jimmy got off and looked around and thought the whole world looked very strange. He began to cry because error told him that he was lost and could not find his way home. He didn't know his way back to the school because the bus had made several turns, and he was not familiar with these streets. Then Jimmy remembered that in truth he was God's perfect child.

Later, when he met his mother at the door, his little face was beaming with smiles.

"Mommie," he said, "I know God is always with us."

"Of course, dear. Tell me about it." said Mother.

Jimmy then told her the story of riding on the wrong bus.

"I cried, and then I knew that I was listening to error. I knew I must start listening to God, and I remembered the verse (Ps. 91:11), 'He shall give his angels charge over thee.' I walked along saying angel thoughts out loud. I said the Lord's Prayer, and I thought about our Father-Mother God being everywhere and that I couldn't be away from Him."

"No, you couldn't be separated from God for one second," said Mother. "Love is ever present today, just as Love was present with Daniel in the lions' den. Mrs. Eddy says, you know, in her interpretation of the Lord's Prayer (Science and Health, p. 16), 'Thy kingdom is come; Thou art ever-present ' "

"Yes, Mommie, and while I was thinking about 'Our Father-Mother God, all-harmonious' (ibid.), I looked up and saw Mary's house. I could find the way home then, because Grandpa has driven me over there so many times."

"Why, Jimmy," said Mother, "did you walk two miles alone?"

"No, Mommie." Jimmy replied. "I couldn't walk alone any more than I could be lost, because God is everywhere."

Mother and Jimmy were more grateful than ever to Mrs. Eddy for her love for God and for explaining that God is always present and ready to help us. They were especially grateful for the Christian Science Sunday School, where boys and girls may learn to use this wonderful truth, as Jimmy did, to meet their everyday problems.
