Christian Science first came into our home when I was a child. The textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, was purchased at the request of the practitioner who was then treating a member of our family. Later this practitioner left the city, but the textbook remained in our home to heal and bless us. My gratitude goes out to the teachers in our Sunday School who helped me to get a demonstrable understanding of this great truth.

I have been healed of toothache, measles, tonsillitis, diphtheria, pneumonia, bone injuries, and many other discordant conditions. Some false traits of character also have been overcome. My brother when very young was healed of typhoid fever by having Science and Health read to him.

The healing of timidity has been a great blessing. When I was a child I was so timid that I would hide when any visitors came to our home. I was afraid of my own voice, which made it very difficult for me to read or speak in public. Even when alone I found it difficult to read audibly. This healing took some time for its consummation. I found that self-consciousness was a form of selfishness, or the belief in an existence apart from God. In Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy has said (p. 126). "Human belief has sought and interpreted in its own way the echo of Spirit, and so seems to have reversed it and repeated it materially; but the human mind never produced a real tone nor sent forth a positive sound." With the aid of the Concordances I learned that the real voice proceeds from God, therefore it is always freely bestowed on all of His children, and that I could not bury this talent but must use it to glorify our Father-Mother, God.
