Over twenty years ago Christian Science...
Over twenty years ago Christian Science, came into my life, and since that time it has met all my needs whenever I have been honest and faithful in the application of its teachings, and spiritual strength and peace have resulted. Severe colds, upset stomach, headaches, and emotional disorders have often, been overcome in one treatment by a practitioner.
The time came for greater spiritual progress, however. As in all lines of achievement there were severe tests, and satisfactory proofs were required. In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy, referring to the necessity for such proofs, writes (p. 233), "This is an element of progress, and progress is the law of God, whose law demands of us only what we can certainly fulfil." I can never be grateful enough to the practitioner who had always been so willing to work for me, but who at this time very wisely and lovingly declined to treat me. At first the argument of confusion and the feeling of being neglected at a critical moment presented themselves. But when I recalled the statement, "Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous, judgment" (John 7:24), and made a positive effort to put it into practice, the confusion and feeling of neglect gave place to a heart full of gratitude and love. It was a time for me to make my own demonstration and thereby gain the understanding and strength that come only by putting into practice what we have already learned. I had never before realized such freedom and joy.
This experience has been a source of encouragement to me, has awakened me to greater activity and consecration under all circumstances, and has given me a far greater desire to learn of the kingdom of God. In Matthew (6:33) we read, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." This seeking has been a joy, and of course much healing has resulted. Financial conditions have improved. I enjoy better health, and I have received an office promotion. When a very dear member of my family passed on, Christian Science helped me through the experience without any feeling of grief, and has given me much comfort and peace.
