I was brought up in Christian Science...
I was brought up in Christian Science and have never ceased to be grateful for the wonderful foundation of truth that I received in the ten years that I attended Sunday School. In the years since, I have had to rely almost entirely on my own understanding of Christian Science.
I received a healing after thirty years which was a wonderful inspiration to me, and which was an overwhelming proof that God, good, is triumphant over evil. In my early childhood I became increasingly aware of great unhappiness, resulting from a sense of being unwanted. This false sense increased in spite of a growing knowledge of Christian Science. Minor ailments and small problems were overcome, but the background of my life just would not seem to come right. I could not find my right niche, although I was well aware of many talents, and one in particular.
When I reached the age of twenty-one I went to New Zealand, with the idea that if I cut myself off from my family and the unhappy life I was then leading in London, I might find my right place in life. Needless to say, I did no such thing, and the sense of evil continued to dog my footsteps in every direction, so that at the end of five years, when I returned to England, the problem was as acute as ever.
