In her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, states (p. 111), "The practice of divine metaphysics is the utilization of the power of Truth over error." The testimony I give here proves that the power of Truth acts effectively when it is applied with faith and understanding.

In 1941 my mother, who was then ninety years old, fell in her room and broke her leg. She was taken to the hospital and X-rayed. The surgeon said that the neck of the thighbone was fractured, and that because of the extreme age of the patient an operation was impossible; therefore, that healing could not be expected. My mother was brought to my home, where the doctor who had attended her at the time of the accident came to see her.

After examining her, he told us that my mother would remain an invalid for the rest of her life, and that she could never again walk downstairs. He added that serious complications might be expected in her general condition. My wife and I mentally denied the alarming predictions as they were made, and when the doctor expressed the desire to come again, we asked him to await a call from us. My mother approved of this decision and said also that she did not wish to take any medicine. I asked her if she would consent to be treated in Christian Science. Although she knew nothing about this Science, she willingly agreed.
