Extending Our Service

Many Churches of Christ. Scientist have recently accepted the opportunity of serving their communities and church memberships in a larger way by moving, enlarging or remodeling their Reading Rooms. Much inspiration and increased interest in the work of the Reading Rooms have resulted, and their experiences are gladly shared.

We moved from an upper floor of a business building to the ground floor. An architect was selected who graciously offered his services free of charge, and the floor plan was drawn. A contractor with high ideals was engaged, who worked harmoniously with us.

Then came the question of priorities and the suggestion that we might be limited in the amount of money we could spend. We were advised that no one in our vicinity had electrical material, but we found a contractor who supplied everything we needed. We now have an abundance of floor plugs and our lighting is perfect. Glass was obtained from prewar stock at prewar prices. Then we located Swedish modern furniture with spring construction, and the furniture company stored it for six months. Our carpenter said at first that he could not make the other furniture we needed without a priority, but later lie discovered that he had enough material left from another contract to supply our needs.
