Mrs. Eddy writes in "Retrospection and Introspection" (p. 24). "During twenty years prior to my discovery I had been trying to trace all physical effects to a mental cause; and in the latter part of 1866 I gained the scientific certainty that all causation was Mind, and every effect a mental phenomenon." In the following incident I am glad to testify that all causation is "Mind, and every effect a mental phenomenon."

From childhood I suffered from acute constipation. One spring, after a hard winter of city life, I made my first trip to a beautiful estuary, where I passed a delightful day. When returning on the launch I felt so impressed with the beauty and harmony of the countryside that a great sense of relaxation and peace descended on me like a mantle of blessing. As the prophet Ezekiel has written (34:26), "I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing." This sense, so difficult to express in words, caused my body to function normally and this continued for about a week, but I had no understanding of Science to help me at that time and the benefit gradually ceased.

Afterwards, I came to Christian Science, studied hard, and imbibed the truth; and after a long struggle, during which I was helped by two practitioners at different times, I gained a permanent healing. Since then I have been healed of continuous chronic colds.
