It has been many years since my first testimony of healing appeared in the Christian Science Sentinel. With great joy for the understanding gained through the earnest study and application of Christian Science, revealed in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I give this testimony, hoping that it may benefit others in their search for health, peace, and happiness.

Although I had witnessed several Christian Science healings, which at the time seemed strange to me, I gradually came to regard them as something that just happened. I considered myself an atheist, and was not interested in anything of a religious nature. When we entered the first World War I lost all interest in life, and in despair looked to what I thought was the only way out, namely death.

While I was in this frame of mind a stranger spoke to me and asked if I had ever attended a Christian Science testimony meeting. At first I was inclined to resent the intrusion, but I reminded myself that I should be civil, so I faintly answered, "No." She continued to speak to me and said that if I would make an appointment to meet her that evening, it being Wednesday, she would be happy to take me. Thinking that this might make my new-found friend happy, I consented to go. It was at this meeting that I caught a glimpse of "a new heaven and a new earth." I did not understand the reading from the desk, but when the time came for testimonies, immediately from all over that large audience people arose to tell of the good that had come into their lives through Christian Science. This was a great contrast to what was going on in the world, and as I looked into the faces of the speakers I felt that they had something worth investigating.
