"All force mental"

Christ Jesus was the most versatile, scientific man the world has ever known. He understood the divine economy of being, and proved it when he fed five thousand people with a few loaves and fishes, and when his tax money was secured from a fish's mouth. His knowledge of the real elements and substance of the universe enabled him to walk on water or turn it into wine. Because of his understanding of divine metaphysics, matter, time, and space presented no obstacle to his demonstration of timeless Truth and ever-present Spirit. By his demonstration of Science, the Master came and stood in the room "where the disciples were assembled," the doors being shut; he transported a ship across a lake immediately, instantaneously healed the sick and sinning, and raised the dead.

How did the great Scientist do these things? Was it not through his understanding of the allness of divine Mind, his Father, or Principle? That all true force is divinely mental is seen in Jesus' words and proved by his deeds. He said (John 6:63), "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life." Of these time-vanquishing, space-annihilating, and healing words or spiritual ideas, he declared (Matt. 24:35), "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away."

With the discovery of atomic energy and its potentialities for destructive or beneficent purposes, it becomes more important than ever to understand the true nature of power. Under the marginal heading "All force mental" on page 124 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes: "Adhesion, cohesion, and attraction are properties of Mind. They belong to divine Principle, and support the equipoise of that thought-force, which launched the earth in its orbit and said to the proud wave, 'Thus far and no farther.'" This statement, like so many others by Mrs. Eddy, is capable of manifold applications in the solution of human problems.
