Invisible Support
One of the greatest problems involved in the complexities of human living is that which is called "support." Particularly is this true today, when many are called upon to adjust their thinking to meet changed conditions and to find new ways of supporting themselves and their families. In this readjustment period Christian Science will be found the solution of these problems. Through its teachings one learns how scientifically to adjust his thinking, not to charged human conditions, but to divine Principle, which adjusts all things to its own law of harmony. So this problem of support will be met by adjusting one's thinking to that invisible support which rests on the solidity of spiritual truth, and which never fails.
Every honest, self-respecting human being desires to be self-supporting, and to support adequately those dependent upon him. Too often this proves to be a burdensome, fear-begetting task, robbing life of joy and freedom. Mary Baker Eddy writes on page 372 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "Matter is not self-sustaining. Its false supports fail one after another." One must turn then from this unstable, precarious sense of support to the stable and invincible Principle whose power supports the universe in equipoise and harmony. One is truly self-supported only when he is mentally supported by the divine Principle of his being. When this invisible spiritual support is understood and demonstrated, the outward visible support becomes proportionately secure, unburdened, affluent, and rightly enjoyed. One learns to trust not in "uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy."
In order to experience this unfailing support of Principle one must stop mentally supporting false beliefs and allow himself to be supported by spiritual facts. Supporting false beliefs is a burdensome thing, seeming to make one weary and heavy laden. One supports a lie by believing it. Refusing to believe it, he ceases to support it and it falls of its own weight. Many are the false beliefs that come to one begging for support. One often prevalent is that of no place, no job, no chance of finding work with so many looking for it. Do not give this belief one moment's support.
