Shortly after the first World War...

Shortly after the first World War I became extremely nervous, supposedly the result of my experience in the service. This condition evidenced itself in many ways, principally in fear—fear of meeting people, of crowds, of speaking before small or large groups, fear of what people thought or might say, and numerous other fears. This was a difficulty for which at first there seemed to be no help. I knew that it was entirely a matter of wrong thinking, a mental and not a physical condition, yet the human remedies were of no benefit.

It was at this point that Christian Science came to my attention, and through its study and application I learned and immediately experienced what right thinking can do. For this awakening I can never fully express my gratitude.

I later married a stanch Christian Scientist, through whose loving help and patience I made progress in my understanding of Truth. I had been brought up in a medical atmosphere, but since my marriage God has been my only physician. I am certainly grateful for the complete absence of sickness of any kind during more than twenty years of studying Science.
