I have always taken a keen...
I have always taken a keen interest in the testimonies given in The Christian Science Journal and Christian Science Sentinel, which, although so varied and from so many parts of the globe, all unite in one theme—gratitude.
Shortly after I became interested in the study of this Science, an irritating rash broke out on my arms and in a few days was covering my body. I was filled with fear. After a Wednesday evening testimony meeting I spoke to a practitioner about it. She appeared not to heed my distress, so I invited her to look at the rash. She insisted that there was nothing to see. I felt indignant, but on my arrival home I found no trace of the complaint. From that time on, I have not had medical advice. I have had many beautiful experiences that show God's care.
During the blitz on Liverpool I was alone one night with the dog. We were sheltering under the stairs. Fear crept in. I turned to the Lord's Prayer with its spiritual interpretation (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, pp. 16. 17). When I came to the words, "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; And God Ieadeth us not into temptation, but delivereth us from sin, disease, and death," something said, "It shall not 'come nigh thy dwelling.'" I immediately took the dog, put him in his basket, and told him we were quite safe. I went to bed and slept in spite of all the bedlam outside, and was never again afraid.
