Church Dedications
Note: Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free from debt.
The Miami Herald
Miami Beach, Florida (First Church).
First Church of Christ, Scientist, Miami Beach, held services of dedication on Sunday morning, January 13, 1946, repeating the service in the evening.
The first Christian Science services were held on the Beach after the 1926 hurricane, when some forty members were unable to attend services on the mainland. Services were held at the home of a member until December of that year, when they were transferred to Community Theater.
A Christian Science Society was organized in 1930 and moved to the Colony Theater in 1941. The present property at 1920 Alton Road was purchased on April 4, 1943, the church also owning adjoining corner lots.
