The Joy of Teaching in the Sunday School

On page 230 of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany," Mary Baker Eddy writes, "It is a joy to know that they who are faithful over foundational trusts, such as the Christian education of the dear children, will reap the reward of Rightness, rise in the scale of being, and realize at last their Master's promise, 'And they shall be all taught of God.'" The joy of being faithful over the foundational trust of teaching in the Christian Science Sunday School is twofold: the joy that comes from being in touch with the childlike thought and the joy of imparting truth to those little ones who, being free from notions and opinions, are most receptive.

There are many interesting ways in which to teach the Scriptures. Nearly every Lesson-Sermon includes an instance of healing. Pupils in all classes enjoy studying these accounts, and many interesting points may be brought to light. The pupils also get acquainted with the Bible characters in each story as it is studied, and ultimately with most of the great men of Bible times.

An atmosphere of love should permeate the Christian Science Sunday School, and the Bible should become a familiar and well-loved book. As the pupil makes the Bible his own book, he will learn many wonderful things about this masterpiece of literature. Every pupil should know that the first four books of the New Testament are called the four Gospels, or the good news. Each of these books tells the story of Jesus' healing works and ministry in a different manner. It is interesting to know that nine of the books of the New Testament are letters which St. Paul wrote to the churches that he had established. These letters comprise, in number, nearly one third of the New Testament writings.
